Local cyclists are being invited to our village centre this weekend for a FREE bike security marking and registering session.
It’s being run by Rushcliffe Borough Council’s ‘Community Safety’ Team and Nottinghamshire Police to assist Ruddington cycle owners with measures to deter thieves. In partnership with BikeRegister, the event is taking place on The Green from 10am until midday this Saturday May 14th.
It will be another opportunity to have your bicycle security labelled as a visible deterrent to bike thieves – because registering it can enable the rightful owner to be traced and reunited with their bike if it gets stolen. There will also be a limited supply of D-locks to swap free of charge for old, weaker locks and some alarmed shed padlocks to help protect bikes whist locked up at home.
Officers say cycles are often the target for shed and outbuilding burglaries, particularly during the spring and summer when residents can be less aware of security when using the buildings more regularly and can be easy for a burglar to access and once inside find bikes are not secured.
Whether a bike is parked up in the street, or in an outbuilding at home, they advise it is equally important for it to be secured with a strong lock, preferably anchored to something else too, like another bike or a lawn mower.
All Ruddington cyclists who’ve not yet had this done to their bicycles are being encouraged to attend this local session.
Recently new cycle racks were installed on The Green as a way of owners parking their bikes there more securely, with further ones also due to be put in place on High Street and Church street.
